A poem for the first time in ages

Yeah, I'm putting this on another date. My family doesn't need to know this feeling.

Surgeon

You cut here
This piece that has screwed up my navel
And made sure that everyone who sees me now
Will say Surgery?
For what?
I'm not angry
For what?
You saved my life.
These staple tracks show that I'm still here
For what, though
I'm still not convinced.
You saved a life that I'm not sure I want.
That's what we do, you see
You put your life into keeping us
even when we maybe shouldn't be saved.
